Wax-emulsions are used in the textile and leather industry in order to impart or enhance the following properties:
- Gloss
- Matting
- Rub resistance
- Scratch resistance
- Hydrophobicity
- Softening
- Sewability improvement
The most common wax emulsions are based on Paraffin (hydrophobing), HDPE (Gloss, Rub & Scratch resistance on leather), LDPE (softening and sewability improvement on textiles and Carnauba (Gloss & scratch resistance of leather). Combinations of these waxes emulsified in water are found as well in tailor made solutions.
