Wax-emulsions are used in the wood-, chip- and fibreboard industry in order to obtain the following properties:
- Release
- Durability and weatherability
- Hydrophobicity
The vast majority of wax emulsions that find their way into this industry are used in chipboard manufacturing. Typically these emulsions are based on slackwax (non-refined paraffin wax) and this application is highly commoditised. More premium wax emulsions based on Montan and/or fully refined paraffin are used in the manufacture of wood products to improve the durability.
